EXHIBITION OVERVIEW

June Clark’s works explore the intersection of family history, recollection and identity. Clark grew up in Harlem, a major centre of Black cultural and artistic excellence. In 1968 she moved to Toronto, where she continues to live and create art. Both cities have played important roles in her art and life.

Clark began working in photography, with Toronto’s Baldwin Street Gallery, and later co-founded the Women’s Photography Co-op. Today, her practice extends to sculpture, collage and photoetching, and revolves around the memories and stories that have deeply impacted her life.

Organized by the Art Gallery of Ontario
