FREE After Three

The AGO's FREE After Three programming is the place to be for youth ages 14 to 25. Participate in tie dying, sticker making, silk screening, skateboard building, mix tape making, movie screenings and break-dancing workshops. Programs run Fall, Winter and Spring on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in Weston Family Learning Centre.

 

Tuesdays: DIY Days

DIY Days with Paddy Leung, Kendra Yee, and Alicia Nauta: Artist led workshops including tie-dying, papier-mâché, zine making, Halloween costume making and runway show, key chain making, screen printing, paper marbling, and more! Paddy Leung is a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist and community arts facilitator, known for creating whimsical large-scale installations and window displays throughout the city. Paddy introduces people of all ages to the joy of creating through D.I.Y. crafting workshops and community events. Kendra Yee is an artist, designer and curator. Her work consists of mixed-media paintings, ceramic sculptures and panel-based illustrations that form speculative worlds where fluid characters come to life through the conversations of interactive bodies. Alicia Nauta is an artist based in Toronto. She makes screenprinted posters, prints, wallpaper, books, zines, printed textiles and other multiples. She is member of Punchclock, a Toronto print studio, and teaches screenprinting and other D.I.Y. workshops at the AGO.

Wednesdays: Hip Hop Dancing

October 3 – December 5, 4-7 pm

Hosted by Caldeira and Catalyst, Unity's Free After Three Hip Hop Dance drop-in program offers weekly, open freestyle workshop sessions and a space for young people to come together and practice their art form with a supportive community and mentors. Open to all levels of experience!

Unity uses Hip Hop to improve the lives of young people creating healthier communities.

Thursdays: Native Youth Resource Centre

October 4 – December 6, 4–6 pm

The Native Youth Resource Centre in partnership with the AGO hosts an Indigenous-led weekly drop-in for Native Resource Centre Youth. This program will create a platform for Indigenous young people to share and preserve personal stories and traditions through art.

This program is for Native Youth Resource Centre participants only.

Tuesday, October 23, 4–6 pm (Ages 14-25)

Get creative at our group zine party! Learn how to make saddle stitch, poster-style and sewn zines. Materials will be provided, including a photocopier, so you can make multiples and swap with friends.

Free After Three Tuesdays: Halloween Runway
Tuesday, October 30, 4–6 pm (Ages 14-25)

Create the D.I.Y. costume of your nightmares! Come on out to this special Halloween-themed workshop with local artists Paddy Leung and Alicia Nauta, and you’ll have the opportunity to design and construct your original costume. Then, showcase your one-of-kind D.I.Y. design at our 2nd Annual Halloween Runway Show! D.I.Y costumes are not required, but always encouraged.

Free After Three Tuesdays: Jean Dreams
Tuesday, November 6, 4–6 pm (Ages 14-25)

Why wait for a new fall wardrobe when you can create one yourself? Bring in old jeans, jackets and denim pieces, and give them an extra added flair. Each piece will be handmade to your liking, using fabric paint, ink pens and patchwork designs. Tired jeans will be given new life, and personalized to the pair of your dreams.

Free After Three Tuesdays: Key Chain Creations
Tuesday, November 13, 4–6 pm (Ages 14-25)

Keep those cluttered keys in a single spot by creating custom key chains. Using a variety of metal loops, air-drying clay and found fabric materials, you can build a work of art that you carry around in your pocket. You’ll never your lose keys again, thanks to this one-of-a-kind lucky charm!

Free After Three Tuesdays: Paper Marbling
Tuesday, November 20, 4–6 pm (Ages 14-25)

Learn how to make your own marbled paper. Marbling is a centuries-old technique, coming out of Central Asia and the Islamic world, that creates beautiful, psychedelic designs. Paint is floated on top of thickened water and swirled, with the paper pressed on top to create a unique design every time.

Free After Three Tuesdays: Screenprinting
Tuesday, November 27, 4–6 pm (Ages 14-25)

Create your own designs and then screenprint them with fabric ink onto tote bags or marbled paper from last week's class. Learn how to print gradients (rainbows!) using your own your designs, and a few already prepared patterned designs.

Free After Three Tuesdays: Postcard Collage
Tuesday, December 4, 4–6 pm (Ages 14-25)

Using old magazines, newspapers and photocopied material, you’ll learn how to deconstruct images into fragments and reassemble them into new and original works. Using materials from artist Alicia Nauta's personal collection, you’ll cut, paste, photocopy and collage to make postcards to keep or send in the mail.
